Billing, Refunds and Cancellation

Effective September 16, 2026

The software platform at beta.socialcinemax.com is developed and operated by Reed Labs LLC. Reed Labs LLC is the merchant of record for paid software services purchased through beta.socialcinemax.com, and is the name that would appear on a statement.

This page describes how billing works. It is deliberately specific about what has been decided and what has not.

Current status

SCX is accepting payments. SCX Screen Control can be purchased, and SCX CRM remains free.

What is free

SCX CRM is free. Not a trial, not a freemium tier that expires - free, for every account, with no card and no time limit.

The people, the relationships, the notes and the search. Free, for every account, with no time limit and no card.

It stays free before you start a Screen Control trial, while the trial runs, after it ends, while you are subscribed, and after you cancel. Nothing about paying or not paying changes your access to it, and nothing about it is represented in our billing system at all.

What is paid

SCX Screen Control. The operational system for running rooms: output identity, connected screens, Theater, and remote control of a display from a phone.

$30 per month, billed monthly, after a 7-day free trial that requires no credit card.

  • 7 days free — the trial starts the first time you open Screen Control, not when you create an account, so nothing is spent by signing up and never using it.
  • $30/month, flat. One price: there is no tier to choose, no introductory rate that later rises, and no discount schedule.
  • Included: 3 active Screen Control outputs; 5 simultaneous remote controllers; Theater, playback and live media control.
  • Slots free themselves: an output or a remote releases its slot when it closes, leaves, or stops responding for about a minute.
  • Cancel any time, keeping access through the end of the period you have paid for.

How a charge happens

Nothing is charged without a checkout you go through deliberately. Before you commit, the checkout shows you the plan, the exact amount, the currency, the billing interval, and whether the charge repeats.

Payments are processed by Stripe. You enter card details on Stripe's own surfaces; SCX does not see or store your card number.

A plan may combine a recurring subscription charge with a one-time setup charge. When it does, both appear as separate lines in the same checkout before you confirm, so the first payment is never larger than what you were shown.

Renewal

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing interval, for the same interval, at the price in force, until it is cancelled. The renewal charge falls on the anniversary of the day the subscription started.

A one-time charge, such as a setup fee, is charged once and does not recur.

Cancellation

You can cancel at any time from Manage billing on your account page, or by writing to reedjrobertson@gmail.com from the address on the account. Either way we will confirm in writing, and that confirmation is your record.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not cut off access you have already paid for: you keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for, and it simply does not renew after that. Until that date your account will say it is active until then rather than showing a renewal date, because no further charge is coming.

Cancelling does not give you a new free trial. One trial per account, whether or not you ever used it, and subscribing again later starts a new subscription rather than resuming the old one.

There is no cancellation fee and no minimum term unless a pilot agreement you signed separately says otherwise.

Your data is not deleted when a subscription ends, and neither is your account. SCX CRM keeps working exactly as it did — cancellation ends SCX Screen Control and nothing else. Ask us to delete your data and we will; otherwise it is there if you come back.

Refunds

Payments are generally non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

There is no standard refund window, and rather than imply one this page says so plainly. The wording above is deliberately qualified: consumer law in some places gives rights that a policy cannot sign away, and this policy does not try to.

If you are charged in error, write to us and we will refund it. We would always rather correct a mistake directly than have you dispute it with your bank.

Because SCX Screen Control begins with a 7-day free trial that takes no card, nobody is ever charged before they have used the product and chosen to buy it.

Failed payments

If a payment fails - an expired card, a declined charge - we will let you know and Stripe retries over its normal dunning period. If it keeps failing, the subscription lapses rather than rolling up a debt.

WE DO NOT CUT OFF ACCESS AT THE FIRST FAILED CHARGE. A failed renewal is usually an expired card rather than a decision to leave, so Screen Control keeps working while the retries run.

SCX CRM is never affected by a failed payment.

Price changes

We may change prices. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will tell account holders before a new price takes effect at their next renewal, so cancelling first is always an option.

Taxes

Prices are shown exclusive of tax unless stated otherwise. Where we are required to collect sales tax, VAT or an equivalent, it is calculated and shown at checkout and added to the amount charged. You are responsible for any tax on your side of the transaction, such as withholding.

Billing problems and disputes

If a charge looks wrong, write to reedjrobertson@gmail.com with the date and amount. We will look into it and reply.

Please do that before raising a dispute with your bank. A bank dispute takes weeks and involves people who cannot see what happened; we can usually resolve it the same day, and if we got it wrong we will refund it.

If you do raise a dispute, we will respond to it and provide the record of the transaction.

This document describes how SCX actually works today and is written to be read, not to impress. It is an operational policy, not legal advice, and it does not create rights beyond those the law already gives you.
